The city of São Paulo has been positively impacted by major renewals of sports centers in the city's outskirts. Certain centers which were previously in poor state have now become, after renewal, an interactive setting with soccer classes for neighborhood children, social projects with senior citizens, and leisure for all families.
Some political leaders understood this reality and passed legislative amendments that allowed artificial grass on old amateur soccer fields in poor communities of São Paulo and other states.
This move, in addition to bringing excellent political visibility, provides social inclusion through sport.
In the capital of São Paulo, the city's outskirts are proud to have artificial grass soccer fields almost "at the backyard," and amateur soccer, which was once synonymous with dirt ground, is now played on the same grass used by top professional soccer clubs, which provides amateur players to participate in superstar-worthy competitions.
One clear example is the Kaiser Cup, the main amateur soccer competition in São Paulo, which was previously played only on dirt fields, but is now conducted on top-quality grass fields.
The trophy is contested by approximately 300 teams using several fields scattered all over the city, most of which already on artificial grass.
The benefits provided by this type grass are perceived by all residents, who, in a gesture of gratitude, have shown their allegiance at polls by re-electing the candidates who provided them with so great an improvement.
Project and tournament organizers no longer need to interdict the fields on rainy days, because this grass allows matches to be played 365 days a year.
As for players, they claim that the chance of injuries caused by holes has decreased. Also, the damping system that makes up the artificial grass of fields ensures impact absorption, thus providing an excellent playing performance and minimizing the risk of injury to the players' joints.
